What does a live podcast producer do during recording?

A live podcast producer joins your recording session to run a tech check, prep guests, keep the run of show on track, monitor audio and video live, and take timestamp notes for the edit. See our pricing page for current prices, or book a free discovery call.

Why have a producer in the session at all?

Most recording problems are invisible until the edit: a guest's microphone switched to the laptop mic, a camera that froze, a great story that got cut off. A live producer catches those while there is still time to fix them, so you are not stuck with a flawed episode afterward. It also takes the technical worry off the host, which usually makes for a better conversation.

What happens before, during and after the recording?

  • Before: a tech check with you and your guest, a quick review of the run of show, and a reminder of anything sensitive to avoid.
  • During: live monitoring of audio and video levels, gentle time cues, and a note of any moment to re-record.
  • After: timestamp notes for the editor showing strong moments, clip candidates and anything to cut.

Is the producer in the room with me?

No. Everything we do is remote. The producer joins your session online, wherever you and your guests are. If you want a physical studio, we can book and coordinate third-party studio time for you. See studio coordination.

Which packages include a live producer?

See our pricing page.

What does a typical run of show look like?

  • Five minutes early: the producer checks every microphone, camera and internet connection.
  • Opening: a quick reminder of the episode goal, the guest introduction and any topics to avoid.
  • Middle: time cues so the strongest segments get room, and a note when a story deserves a second take.
  • Close: a clean outro and a call to action recorded while everyone is still warmed up.
  • Wrap: timestamp notes go to the editor the same day.

Frequently asked questions

Is a live producer the same as an editor?

No. The producer works during the recording. The editor works afterward, using the producer's timestamp notes.

Can the producer help prepare my guests?

Yes. Guest prep and a tech check are part of the session. Full Production also includes guest research briefs.

What if my recording runs long?
